Cookery Course
Aldeburgh Cookery School is run by Thane Prince and Sara Fox in a converted Victorian police station. Key to their philosophy is buying from local food suppliers, adapting their courses to suit the seasons and choosing organic wherever possible. They believe that “you should take beautiful ingredients, cook them simply, then sit down and share the meal with friends” – a simple but charming credo, particularly for a cookery school.
They offer a range of interactive day courses titled Shellfish, Preparing and Cooking Seasonally or Locally available British Shellfish, Modern British Food that covers an eclectic menu for a dinner party or Great British Fish. This is by all accounts, a fun but interesting day that starts with a saunter down to Aldeburgh beach to inspect and buy the landed fish, then taking it back to the school where you are taught to cook it.
They also organise Mediterranean-inspired courses and, in the autumn, a Game Cookery course. And, men beware, a Day in the Kitchen specifically aimed at chaps wishing to brush up on their culinary skills.
